Eureka Now In Third Place?

In average statewide gas prices, that is.

According to a recent survey, Eureka is no longer the leader in high gas prices in the state. We're in third place following San Francisco and Pleasanton.

I've always questioned the statement that Eureka always has the highest prices. As I mentioned before, I saw prices at some stations in San Francisco that were considerably above what we pay here.

Nationwide, seems to me that Hawaii generally is up there in the top as far as gas prices go, as well.

Then again, they're talking average prices, and it would be hard for someone to easily figure those out. That's probably all part of The Conspiracy: They're just trying to keep us confused.

Well, if you factor in the value of the autographs Mario Andretti signed up here ,plus Michael Andretti's sponsorship of RELAY FOR LIFE, how could we be third? They're practically giving it away.

We could be a lot lower if we'd open the Eureka Port and start buying the oil directly from China. With all the socialists in political power up here one wonders why he haven't done it already. Hell, with any luck maybe China can give us discounts on cheap plastic crap produced by child slave labor.

Seems like our harbor commissioner should have a good angle on that.

nick, China does not export oil or refined products. They buy crude oil on the open market in competition with U.S. refiners. With the enviro nazis artificially restricting the domestic supply by prohibiting exploration and production, we can expect the prices to remain at or above the present level and them to continue blaming it on "greedy big oil".

Enviro nazis? Prohibiting exploration and production? What a bunch of ignorant blather that was.

Rex Bohn was overheard at the grocery store the other day saying, "Hey at least no one stops me anymore and says, 'Rex, you know what I paid for pulp at Redding/Ukiah/Willits?'"

The sad truth of the matter is that oil (and gasoline) are the crack cocaine of the American economy.

What are you gonna do?

If they raise the price of a gallon of gas to $5.00 -- you're gonna pay it.

Are you gonna schlep the kids to school/band/soccer practice/baseball games/the Bayshore Mall on your bike?

I think not.

And what of all the crazies living in the Bay Area and LA that have to commute 60 miles (or two hours) each way to work everyday?

If they ain't on public transportation yet, it ain't gonna happen.

We're determined to warm this planet up, even if it costs five bucks a gallon to do it.
