Rough Waters Might Lie Ahead

Thanks to Cap'n Buhne, over at the Buhne Tribune, it might get a bit nasty here. Looks like the Cap'n finally had enough of the vitriolic, hateful comments being made on his blog so he decided to stop accepting comments to his posts.

A shame to see him do that, as I think a lot of what makes a good blog is the ability for viewers to post comments. I can't blame him, though, as too many of the comments were over the top and detracted from being able to enjoy the blog.

Problem is, he suggested if people enjoyed commenting on current events, they should come here to do so. Oh well. We'll see what happens.

Don't know how I'll deal with any of the riff- raff that might come here. I'm pretty sure some already come here since, when I mentioned that Sim's/ Buhne poll on the B-T a while back, a few of them picked up on it right away.

I'll likely just delete posts that aren't productive in any way, shape or form. Deleted the first non- spam comment the other day, as some of you might have noticed. Someone posted an insult to me and, since it had no real value as a comment, I deleted it.

I anticipate having to do that more often in the future THANKS TO YOU CAP'N BUHNE!

I think that some of the comments that were made were way over the top, even to him, so he decided to do away with all of them.

Apparently he didn't want to try moderating the comments first, which I think is what I would have tried, and I suppose what I will try here if comments get out of hand.

For now, I'll just delete comments that are simply insults and/ or attacks that have nothing to do with the subject at hand, but that won't stop them from being posted in the first place.

Luckily, at least so far, we haven't had very much of that here.

the climate and tone here are much more civilized

I'd like to have it stay that way. I don't mind a little friendly back and forth. Heck, I don't mind some hot and heavy back and forth. But when people's main motivation for commenting is to run down other commentors, I don't see anything productive in it and it's not something most of us want to be involved in.

There's nothing wrong with a fiery debate, even if tempers flare. The problem is when debaters stop debating and fling profanities at each other. You have no choice but to cut them off. Delete their comments.

Fred, I'm still reading your blog. Even though you and I tend to disagree, your blog is a refreshing blend.

The comments started getting pretty "spammy" And pretty over the top. BUT if someone made a threat on the forum (blog) I hope the police were told about it.

I can't believe anyone who frequents a Libertarian blog would favor censorship, which is exactly what "Captain Buhne" did by deleting thousands of comments on posts stretching back for more than a year. I suspect its because of the recent KSLG show and the beating John Matthews took from the critics afterwards!

I'd hardly call disallowing comments on a blog because someone doesn't want to deal with baseless threats, accusations and insults, "censorship".

One of the comments I saw yesterday morning before they were all deleted was from someone claiming they had photographic proof that Buhne IS Kevin Hoover of the Eye. If I remember correctly the pic was in the ER. Also, I have listened to the interview of Buhne on KSHIT...err KSLUG and indeed Buhne's speaking patterns are extremely similar to Kevin Hoover. I'll bet $100 Kevin is Buhne. I wonder if Hank or Charles Douglas will write a story about this supposed mystery of who Buhne is and could be.

Fred: I love your blog. The Buhne blog was getting pretty bizarre with a bunch of hateful people spewing MAXAAM and anti-arkley rhetoric about everything. It was hurtful to read but really exposed the riff that has split this community by the divisive political tactics that unfortunately are becoming "acceptable" to so many here.

Fred, thanks for being such an honorable person and for keeping the insults off this blog.

Who gives a crap who Capt. Buhne is? The endless guessing game is meaningless and boring.

It's not "spewing" to bring up MAXXAM and Arkley. Both entities have major influence on Humboldt county residents. Last I checked, the residents of Humboldt county have not agreed to be good little subjects and sing the praises of the financial elite no matter what they do.

That said, I don't blame the Capt. for taking action in the face of the plethora of stupid, insulting comments that littered his blog.

I am creating a place on my blog for the Buhne/Hoover question. Please send proof to my blog where it will be posted if I can verify it.

Fred, I posted a link on my blog to yours because I feel the Hoover/Buhne mystery deserves serious media attention.

Ok, whatever. Thanks for the link.

I'm sure the local papers will get right on it, since anyone who's anyone in Humboldt comes here. Once they see the issue mentioned here, they'll have to jump on it.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, Buhne is too "old" to the area and can't be Hoover.

Buhne's references are clearly older that Hoover. The style is different. The humor is different. And Buhne, very much UNLIKE Hoover, is Eureka oriented.

On to the next conspiracy theory

The writing style of Kevin Hoover differs from that of Cap'n Buhne, and the "disguised" voice on KSLG clearly was not Kevin's. That's my two cents' worth.

That's the impression I got. I thought Buhne lived in Eureka.

Kevin also has a full time job running a newspaper aka a place to communicate. That's no small thing.

I wish Buhne would post whatever it was that tipped the scales.

8:17 am - it is spewing when one uses it for everything - ie Cheri Moores death = arkley/maxxam.

It was everywhere and it was boring and quite small minded.

And 8:18 pm - sunnybrae girl ain't Harmony.
