Crime Is Up...

in Blue Lake that is.

A few days ago, when I used the same caption for a post that dealt with statewide crime rates, I jokingly suggested Paul Gallegos had some explaining to do as his campaign has credited him with the county being, to paraphrase, "the safest ever".

This time Gallegos does have some explaining to do.

I don't care if some are saying the spike in crime in Blue Lake is a by- product of the Blue Lake Casino. The Gallegos campaign can't have it both ways: You're either responsible for crime rates going up or down, or you're not.

Which is it going to be?

Thank you Fred. This is a game of "you catch it you keep it" Gallegos wanted the stats - he wrapped himself with the stats (stupidly I must agree with you) Now he's got to deal with the crime rate going up. And it is not just Blue Lake - it is up in Eureka and with the Sheriffs Office.

Paul - the butcher bill is due.

"The end result is arrests and bookings that went from nine in 2002 to 372 in 2005." Wow!
I'd heard that crime increased 1000% in Blue Lake...
I don't think it is just the casino. I think it is meth. It's everywhere, and getting alot worse.

crime is down under gallegos, but it's not.

cops are bad, but he's top cop

i listened to his campaign manager repeat her talking points 30 times on KMUD this morning, paul has to stay distant from the cops because he might have to investigate them. and estellel plays right along.

By that line of reasoning, he shouldn't get too buddy buddy with her because she might be driving to eureka, and hit, say a patch of hail and he's have to charge her with a felony.

what a sorry day it was when humbodt county voted for this kind of change.

Gallegos’ tells us, "the Moore shooting has tragically reminded us, it is imperative that the public feel confident in a professional distance between police officers and the D.A. who is responsible for finding the truth." By this warped reasoning, Gallegos needs to distance himself and not get endorsements from anyone in this county. Any person may do something that brings them into contact with the law and since he "is responsible for finding the truth" then he needs to keep a professional distance from everyone. Frankly, I am appalled that he would attempt to use the Moore tragedy for political gain.

Dear Anonymous @ 8:14 a.m., I appreciate your comment. It would be wonderful if you expressed that same thought in the form of a letter to the editor, sent to all of our local papers.

Try this one Paul: "the treesitters, the critical mass protestors and the MayDay protestors have tragically reminded us that it is imperative that the public feel confident in a professional distance between activists and the D.A. who is responsible for finding the truth, and for prosecuting those who break the law."

Who are you more likely to have to prosecute?
