New From Hospice

A friendly gift from Humboldt Hospice I might mention: They brought by a hospital bed yesterday, especially useful since I have a hell of a time getting out of my old bed now. As the nurse mentioned whn discusssing it the other day. I pointed out I couldn't just get out of bed and walk to tee bathroom anymore...he pointed out: "Yep, now you need a plan to get out of bed now". Indeed. I can't just get up and walk off anymore.

This bed helps with that since it raises you to a sitting positiion first. Really, does help. I suppose I should have included a picture,  but it's nice and fits in the one spot we had available. Humboldt Hospice is good!

Sacramento Bee Fights Back?

The Sacramento Bee seems unhappy with apparent corruption among Southern CA city governments: "Eye-popping inflated public salaries. Personal loans to employees from the city budget. Illegal tax increases. Shakedowns of local businesses. A car-towing scheme to generate revenue. Seven politicians and city administrators convicted."

I can't help but wonder if this is brought up because SoCal is relatively conservative? Would they make this fuss if it was in an area run by Democrats? I doubt it. I don't think they have before.

Eureka Rate Increases

The Times- Standard tells of plans to increase water and sewer rates in the city. I already e-mailed
The Mayor in opposition. Color me skeptical but I can't help but think this is a cover up for out of control pension costs

They think this could triple rates. Yikes! Yet another race to the bottom.

Humboldt Hospice

I revently had the pleasure, or not, of dealing with Humboldt Hospice, which, as some of you may know, deals with end of life decidons of those deemed terminally ill. It's akin to heing put on a list of those who are dying, but aren't dead yet. Not my choice but you go where you have to.Not bad, so far, aside from pesky nurses coming by the house and bugging  me.

They provide nurses and medication for end of life care. We'll see how that works out. One unexpected pleasure was they immediately assured me issuance of a Medical Marijuana (215) Card, Doesn't get any better than that, huh?

So, they'll come by on occasion and pester me. Nice enough folks and nice to have someone else in my corner that isn't totally stupid as is the case now.

When do they come by again? Who knows? Maybe later this week?

Noisy Streets

I'd never realized how noisy our street was until earlier this year. I'd never noticed before, but while laying in bed at night realized I could hear cars racing around from miles awy. From the southeast, it seemed I could hear cars peeling out regardless of the time. I now find it quie annoying. I don't get why people feel the need to race their cars at one in the morning, much less one in the afternoon. Should they be fined for that noise? I don't know, but seems to me people should be able to drive their cars. Not sure what to do about all the noise, but this is a very noisy neighborhood and that's not good.

A Church Bunny

This is pretty much what a "church bunny" is: Generally in a light colored, pastel dress, knee high . Hair in pony tail. Holding bible or prayer book above her breast. Hair in pony tail. Get it? You see them at Nazarene Church all the time.

Church Bunnies For City Council?

I started wondering about this the other day:  Would someone's affiliation with a church disqualify them from my support in a city council race?  I think so, although I'm not sure I have good reason. First of all, being a "church bunny" denotes to me a lack of judgment and leading their life based on superstition. Not something we need in government. So, nope, church bunnies go to the end of the line.

One that comes to mnd is former Eureka Church boy, Mike Newman- rightfully trounced in his re- eeEction bid for Eureka council. Expecially so after seeing his shameless election Facebook page that spoke of nothing but church.  Nice guy, but clearly out of touch with the people of Eureka.

Besides, if anything, we need to get the churhes out of Eureka, not bring them further into it. We needfewer church bunnies here. Not less.

Church activity should be a disqulifier, if anything  as it shows the person bases their life on superstition, which is what church is. We need less of that, not more.
